Event Details

This four week class is for rabbis and Jewish Communal Professionals that are interesting in learning advanced social media skills. Perfect for people that have already taken Social Media Basics with Natiiv Arts & Media or if you've been blogging on your own for a few years.

We will meet at 1PM Central/2PM Eastern on Tuesdays. The curriculum is being developed based on the requests of past participants of the basics class and will be posted on March 9, 2010.

Week One

Social Media in the Synagogue

Rabbi Rebecca Schorr from Congregation B'nai Tzedek in California will be joining as a guest speaker for half of the call to lead a discussion about how her congregation is using social media to stay connected. She will be able to answer your questions from a rabbi's point of view.

Week Two

New Tools & Consumer Marketing

In week two, we will focus livestreaming and location based services. Can location based sites like Foursquare, Gowalla or Brightkite be useful in your day to day work?

Susan Getgood, owner of GetGood Strategic Marketing, will be joining us to discuss a few case studies from her work doing consumer marketing with social media. We'll discuss what synagogues can learn from consumer marketing and her best practices.

Week Three

Audio and Education

In week three, we will work on podcasting, internet radio and hosting webinars. We'll be looking at ways for you to take the audio you already create (D'var torah, speeches, conversations) and make them available online. I'll also walk you through using GoToMeeting and Eventbrite to organize your own online webinars. The other most requested site to learn about was Ustream and other live streaming sites. How can you take your daily work online and make it available for people who aren't in the room.

Rabbi Laura Baum from OurJewishCommunity.org will be joining us as a guest speaker to talk about how she's been live-streaming shabbat services and her unique Seder offering this year.

Week Four

TBD

I want to leave some room to schedule our last class after you have a sense for what we're covering and what questions remain. My current plan is to cover privacy, marketing and taking your blog to the next level.

What do people say about Leah Jones of Natiiv Arts & Media?

“I recently took Leah's social media class for Jewish professionals. Though I was already familiar with a lot of the platforms discussed, the class inspired me and deepened my knowledge. I have begun to use twitter because of the class and it has really added an important (and fun) element to my rabbinic community organizing efforts. It is clear to me that these web 2.0 tools are important for Jewish leaders as we work to vivify the Jewish Community. If we want to enlarge the tent pegs and drive them firm, we must use every resource at our disposal. Leah Jones understands this and she is here to help.”

Rabbi Michelle Pearlman, Temple Shalom, Boston

"Leah's program was thorough, thoughtful and far more useful than I anticipated. Even though I was familiar with some of the content by virtue of my tech beat, Leah put a fresh spin on how to use and tap into the power of social media. I've used many of the techniques she showed me, impressing many people in the process. I consider Leah my social media tutor."

Eric Benderoff, former technology columnist at Chicago Tribune

Natiiv Arts & Media

At Natiiv Arts & Media, we believe that you can do all this social media stuff on your own. Yep, we just said it. We aren’t here to do communications for you, but to teach you how to use social media tools in your marketing mix.

We’ve worked with musicians, writers, accountants, theaters and clergy. While our focus is working with individuals involved in creative pursuits, we work with non-profits, small businesses and curious people around the world to answer questions about Twitter, Facebook, ethics, search skills, blogging, online photo and video, and more.
